Qatar Diamond Exchange admitted to membership of CIBJO

The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has been granted membership to CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, marking its admittance to the industry's leading representative and standards-setting body. As a National Association Member, QDE's international standing expands beyond the diamond trade to the broader jewellery, gemstone, and precious metals sector.

This membership was approved during CIBJO's centenary year, highlighting its significance. Founded in 1926, CIBJO is headquartered in Milan and Bern, representing national jewellery associations, trade organisations, and companies involved in the industry, from mining to retail. It holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

CIBJO's Blue Books serve as the industry's definitive directories of international standards for diamonds, coloured stones, pearls, gemological laboratories, precious metals, coral, and responsible sourcing. By joining CIBJO, QDE will participate in sectoral commissions, contributing to the development of standards, terminology, and disclosure practices governing the jewellery and gemstone trade globally.

Director Ghanim Nasser Al Saadi expressed pride in Qatar's connection to a century of standards development, emphasizing that the Exchange's operations will now align with internationally recognized definitions and disclosure practices. CIBJO's President, Dr Gaetano Cavalieri, welcomed QDE's addition, noting the country's commitment to international standards and responsible trade, which the confederation aims to advance.
