Police foil kidnap attempt in Anambra, arrest seven suspects

The Anambra State Police Command has successfully thwarted a suspected kidnapping plot, freeing a victim who was held captive for three days and apprehending seven suspects connected to the criminal activity. Two of the individuals arrested are part of a kidnapping syndicate that targets unsuspecting members of the public, while the remaining five are linked to an armed robbery gang known for stealing vehicles.

During separate security operations, police officers made the arrests following credible intelligence and open-source information. The suspects involved in the kidnapping were apprehended on August 16, 2026, in Akpukpokelemu Village, Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area, while five suspects connected to the armed robbery were arrested on September 15, 2026, in Asaba, Delta State.

The arrests resulted in the recovery of a stolen tricycle and the seizure of ₦7 million that had been withdrawn from the victim's bank accounts by the kidnappers. The Anambra State Police Command's spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, praised the officers for their professionalism and commitment to combating violent crime through intelligence-led strategies and technological support.
