Police find one-year-old in Montreal homeless encampment

Montreal police are investigating a series of suspected arson attacks targeting a commercial building in the city's north end over the past three weeks. Police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant revealed that authorities received a call around 4:10 a.m. on August 31st about a fire at a business located on Jean-Talon Street near 22nd Avenue, in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough, north of downtown Montreal.

Upon arriving, officers found the fire on the second and third floors had spread, prompting evacuations. Traces of an accelerant were discovered after the flames were brought under control, leading investigators to suspect arson. The fire caused significant damage to all three floors, which police now consider to be beyond repair.

Despite the extensive destruction, no casualties were reported. Brabant stated that the same location had been targeted in an attempted arson on August 30th and again on August 31st, when a suspect allegedly smashed a window and threw an incendiary object inside the building. However, no arrests have been made in connection with these incidents, and all three investigations remain ongoing.
