Police arrest seven suspected robbers at Zebilla

The Upper East Regional Police Command in Ghana has made seven arrests in connection with a series of armed robberies in Zebilla, Garu, and Binduri. The suspects, identified as Issaka Iddrisu, Ali Tamimu, Akugre Amobila, Banabas Apiiga, Abdul-Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena, and Bilal Adabodee, range in age from 20 to 41.

The arrests were carried out through an intelligence-led operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate, the Black Cobra Unit, and the Zebilla Community Watchdogs. The suspects reportedly confessed to being part of a larger network of robbery gangs supplied with weapons for their operations. Two robbery victims identified two of the suspects as participants in separate incidents where they were robbed at gunpoint of two Yamaha scooters, valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000 respectively. The victims claimed they were threatened with death if they reported the crimes.

The suspects admitted to involvement in the robberies and revealed that a weapon was supplied to them by an individual in Bawku, who is believed to be their weapons supplier. Searches of their homes uncovered two unregistered motorbikes, suspected illicit drugs, and GH¢29,550 in cash, believed to be proceeds from criminal activities.

The seven suspects have been remanded into police custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court and are scheduled to reappear on September 23, 2026. Police efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the alleged weapons supplier responsible for providing the gang with their weapons.
