Police arrest seven suspected armed robbers at Zebilla

Over the course of a single operation, police forces in the Upper East Region of Ghana have apprehended seven individuals suspected of being armed robbers, with the alleged criminal activities taking place in the towns of Zebilla, Garu, and Binduri. The suspects, who range in age from 20 to 41, include Issaka Iddrisu, Ali Tamimu, Akugre Amobila, Banabas Apiiga, Abdul-Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena, and Bilal Adabodee.

These arrests were the result of an intelligence-driven operation spearheaded by the Police Intelligence Directorate, the newly-formed Black Cobra Unit, and local community watchgroups. According to police officials, the suspects reportedly admitted to being part of a larger gang network that provides weapons for robbery operations across the aforementioned regions.

One of the victims, who was robbed at gunpoint of two Yamaha scooters, reported the incident to the police. Both victims confirmed that the robbers had threatened to kill them if they did not remain silent about the robbery. The suspects have since confessed to the crimes and have provided further information regarding the weapon used in the robberies, which was reportedly procured from a source in Bawku.

During searches conducted at the residences of three of the suspects, police also recovered two unregistered motorbikes, suspected drugs, and approximately GH¢29,550 in cash. This sum is believed to be proceeds from the suspects' illicit activities. The seven individuals have been taken into police custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court and are scheduled to appear before the court on September 23, 2026. Authorities are actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest the alleged weapons supplier.
