PNB Fraud Case: Mehul Choksi FEO Plea Delayed Again As Mumbai Court Gives Lawyers Another Chance To Argue

Mumbai, September 17, 2026: The wait for the Economic Offences Department (ED) to obtain an order declaring Mehul Choksi as a fugitive economic offender remains unresolved, with the ED's plea pending since 2018. The special court, set to pass an order on Thursday, granted Mehul Choksi's lawyers an additional opportunity to argue the ED's application.

Choksi's legal representatives, Yash Agarwal and Jasmin Purani, sought to recall the order issued by the special court that had rejected their request for adjournment and dismissed their application for orders. They argued that they had requested further adjournment to obtain clarification and instructions from Choksi, as their primary counsel, Vijay Agarwal, was unavailable.

The court, however, emphasized that the opportunity for Choksi's lawyers to present their case must be granted, in accordance with the principle of natural justice. The court further noted that over 100 applications have been filed since the initial application was submitted. Consequently, the court decided to recall its earlier order and provide Mehul Choksi's lawyers with another chance to argue the ED's application. This further postpones the proceedings, with the case now set to be heard next week.
