Papagomo fails to halt RM280,000 payment to Guan Eng, son

In May, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that controversial blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris, known as Papagomo, was responsible for defaming Lim Guan Eng and his son in a Facebook post from March 14, 2020. The court ordered Papagomo to pay RM280,000 in damages, along with RM5,000 in costs.

Papagomo appealed the judgment, seeking to suspend the payment of the RM280,000 sum to the Lims. However, Justice Roslan Mat Nor denied his application for a stay of the judgment, stating that he did not present any special circumstances warranting a stay. Papagomo argued that his appeal would be rendered unnecessary if the judgment amount were paid, and he feared bankruptcy proceedings if the plaintiffs enforced the judgment. Nevertheless, the court found these reasons insufficient for granting a stay.

Papagomo's lawyer, Simon Murali, appeared on behalf of the Lims, while Norfazilah Jaafar represented Papagomo. However, Simon later revealed that they did not file any applications to enforce the judgment amount against Papagomo.
