Padres news: How Xander Bogaerts accomplished SD feat never seen before

Xander Bogaerts achieved a remarkable feat on Thursday afternoon that no San Diego Padres player had ever accomplished before. The outfielder hit a home run and tripled during the Padres' seven-run second inning against the Colorado Rockies, marking the first time a Padres player recorded both a homer and a triple in the same inning, according to MLB.com's Sarah Langs.

This historic accomplishment made Bogaerts the first player in franchise history to achieve such a feat. He is now the second player in MLB this year to accomplish the feat, following Tristan Peters' achievement on July 10. Before this year, the last time a player hit a homer and triple in an inning was Shin-Soo Choo on April 26, 2017.

Bogaerts started the second inning by hitting a solo home run off Tanner Gordon, tying the game at 1-1. With San Diego leading 6-1 at the time, Bogaerts followed up with a triple to right field, scoring an RBI and completing the historic inning, giving the Padres a 7-1 advantage. The Padres entered the game with nine games remaining after their series finale in Colorado and control of the NL's final Wild Card spot.

If Bogaerts continues to perform at this level, San Diego's lineup will become significantly more dangerous, potentially catching NL contenders' attention.
