Nurse critical after husband rides 400 km to attack her in Bengaluru hospital

A nurse, Madhumitha, sustained critical injuries after her estranged husband allegedly assaulted her at a Bengaluru hospital on Thursday morning, according to police sources. The incident occurred in the basement parking area of Narayana Hospital, where Madhumitha, originally from West Bengal, was admitted following the attack. The accused, Venkatesh, a resident of Madurai, Tamil Nadu, married Madhumitha in 2024, and the couple had been living apart for approximately a year due to marital and family grievances.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police K Vamsi Krishna, Venkatesh traveled over 400 kilometers from Madurai to Bengaluru on a motorcycle the day before the attack. Upon arriving in Bengaluru, he confronted Madhumitha in the hospital basement and allegedly wielded two sharp weapons, causing severe injuries. The suspect also reportedly threw a liquid, suspected to be acid, at his wife.

Venkatesh, who works for an oil and gas company in Chennai, allegedly carried out the assault before any members of the public could intervene.

Upon hearing the commotion, an on-duty traffic sub-inspector and his colleagues quickly restrained the assailant. The police have subsequently apprehended Venkatesh and are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Forensic teams have collected samples of the liquid thrown by Venkatesh for testing, aiming to determine its exact nature, whether it is an acid or a cleaning chemical.
