No politics behind fuel export reduction to Sahel – BOSTenergies

BOSTenergies Limited has denied any political motives behind the reduction in fuel exports to Burkina Faso and Mali. This clarification came after a Reuters report based on comments made by the company's Managing Director, Afetsi Awoonor, during an energy conference in Bangkok. Awoonor stated that BOSTenergies was "managing our export business to ensure that we have enough for the country first."

However, the company emphasized that this statement created an inaccurate impression that Ghana was on the brink of a fuel shortage and thus reduced supplies to the Sahelian countries.

BOSTenergies clarified that there is no imminent fuel shortage in the country and no rationing of available fuel has been implemented. The reduction in regional exports is primarily due to scheduled revamp works at its Bolgatanga depot, which serves as the main gateway to the Sahelian market. The company stated that this decision was made without any political, security, or diplomatic considerations.

Under normal operations, BOSTenergies distributes fuel across northern Ghana using a network of pipelines and barges connecting depots from the south to the north. This system enables the company to supply Burkina Faso and Mali at competitive prices while maintaining its profit margins. To compensate for the ongoing revamp at the Bolgatanga depot, BOSTenergies has been using Bulk Road Vehicles to transport fuel from its coastal depot in Tema to the Sahelian countries.

The company emphasized that this approach is being implemented while ensuring equitable access to fuel across all demand zones nationwide.

BOSTenergies expects its regional supply capacity to be fully restored once the Bolgatanga depot revamp is completed. The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting regional fuel security through reliable and commercially sound supply arrangements. It also expressed its ongoing collaboration with government and regulatory partners to expedite the completion of the Bolgatanga depot.
