Nitiwul calls for GPHA boss Paul Tanye-Kulono to step aside over cocaine probe

Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul is calling for GPHA CEO Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono to step aside during an ongoing cocaine investigation. This comes after President John Dramani Mahama convened a high-level meeting following the seizure of cocaine linked to a container from Ghana intercepted in France. The President informed the meeting that 10 individuals, including four Customs Authority officers, are under arrest as part of the drug trafficking investigation.

Nitiwul expressed dissatisfaction with the current investigation, stating that the process should extend beyond the individuals directly linked to the container. He emphasized that heads of each supervisory chain must step aside to ensure a thorough investigation. Nitiwul also urged the government to address other significant cocaine seizures over the past year, not just the recent France case, which had a cumulative value warranting broader scrutiny.

Additionally, the former minister called for the government to provide regular updates on the progress of previous investigations and prosecutions related to alleged cocaine trafficking. He urged the establishment of a broader committee involving relevant sectors to investigate Ghana's drug trafficking challenges and recommend preventive measures.

Despite welcoming President Mahama's decision to meet with his team, Nitiwul stressed the need for further action and transparency to restore public confidence in the fight against illicit drugs.
