NHAI launches OneTag: Change FASTag bank without replacing your physical tag

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a new service called 'OneTag' through its Rajmargyatra app. This service allows users to change their FASTag issuing bank without having to replace the physical tag on their vehicle. NHAI hopes that this move will give consumers more options and simplify the FASTag system for the over 130 million users already enrolled.

To use the service, a FASTag holder simply needs to log in to the Rajmargyatra app, input their vehicle registration number, and check if they are eligible to switch banks. They will then receive a six-digit Mobile Verification Code (MVC) from their current issuer bank. After providing this code, the user can choose a new issuing bank, complete the necessary Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements and set up a wallet on the new bank's platform. The final step is to complete the switch process.

An important point to note is that the FASTag ID connected to the vehicle does not change during this process, so there's no need to swap out the tag affixed to the windshield. Once the porting is finished, the previous issuer will close the old FASTag wallet and refund any remaining balance, minus any adjustments that may apply.

There is a six-month waiting period before an interoperable FASTag can be transferred again. NHAI believes that 'OneTag' will streamline FASTag management by reducing the need for repeated tag production, shipping, and reissuance. This change will also make it simpler for users to switch between different banks and service providers, giving them more flexibility in managing their FASTag.

In addition to the portability service, the Rajmargyatra app also allows users to buy FASTag Annual Passes, FASTag Local Passes, and access the emergency helpline at 1033.
