New Market Timings: Shops Close at 9 PM, Restaurants At 11 PM

The federal government has maintained the current closure hours for various establishments, including markets, shops, restaurants, and marriage halls, as announced in a recent austerity and fuel conservation notice on September 17, 2026. According to the Cabinet Division's notification, these businesses will adhere to the same schedule on all days of the week.

Shops, markets, and shopping malls will cease operations at 9 PM, while marriage halls and marquees hosting festive events will close at 10 PM. Restaurants, cafés, and eateries are required to shut down at 11 PM, although takeaway and home delivery services are exempt from this restriction. Standalone fruit and vegetable shops and pharmacies are also permitted to remain open until 11 PM.

Notably, standalone bakeries, tandoors, and milk and dairy shops are exempt from the closing-time rules. The document further clarifies that fuel and CNG pumps, electric vehicle charging stations, gyms, sports facilities, and call centers are also exempt. Provincial and regional governments may opt to adopt similar measures in the future.
