NDPC inaugurates technical committee to review and finalise Ghana Infrastructure Plan

The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has established a Technical Committee to evaluate, revise, and finalize the Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP). This effort aims to improve infrastructure planning, financing, and delivery throughout the country. The four-month task will entail a comprehensive review of the existing GIP in relation to the present sector plans, policies, regulations, master plans, and investment programs.

The committee is also tasked with updating the plan’s results framework and incorporating the National Spatial Development Framework to ensure that infrastructure development aligns with Ghana’s broader spatial and development priorities.

Speaking at the committee's inauguration, Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, the Chairman of the NDPC, emphasized the need to move away from a "stop-and-go approach" to national development and towards a more consistent, predictable, and transparent approach. He stressed that the updated plan should provide clear direction for infrastructure development and establish a robust governance framework to guarantee effective, efficient, and transparent procurement and delivery of infrastructure.

Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, the Director-General of the NDPC, stated that the committee will consult with relevant stakeholders, update infrastructure indicators and milestones, and propose institutional arrangements for implementation at both national and district levels. Additionally, the committee will identify financing options, such as infrastructure bonds, government revenue, and public-private partnerships, with a focus on critical sectors such as energy, water, transport, and digital infrastructure.

On behalf of the committee, Daniel Amofa, the Convenor and Chief Analyst at the NDPC, expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in its members and reaffirmed their dedication to the assignment.
