Nashik: NMC To Crack Down On Roadside Parking Outside Hotels, Restaurants

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced intensified efforts to combat illegal roadside parking, particularly outside hotels, restaurants and other commercial establishments. Mayor Himgauri Aher-Adke has ordered civic officials to target businesses whose customers park on public roads, which hinders traffic flow and inconveniences pedestrians and other motorists.

Several major infrastructure and road projects are currently underway in the city ahead of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, and the problem of illegal parking is exacerbating traffic congestion.

Officials have been instructed to identify locations where obstructions are present and remove them to better utilize available road space. A civic review meeting revealed that customers of hotels and restaurants were complaining about their vehicles occupying public roads and creating traffic bottlenecks. Mayor Aher-Adke has directed the issuance of notices to establishments responsible for these violations, ensuring that private parking spaces are not mistaken for public roads.

The NMC will also take action against establishments that have built unauthorized ramps on public roads. Such structures reduce road width and can impede pedestrians, emergency vehicles and regular traffic. The administration will coordinate between encroachment, town planning and public works departments to eliminate unauthorized structures and obstructions. Footpath encroachments and roadside parking will also be reviewed as part of the crackdown.

The availability of public parking spaces is under scrutiny, and the civic administration is reviewing certain parking facilities developed under reserved land provisions to make them accessible for public use. As Nashik gears up for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, where the city will see a surge in vehicular movement, ensuring unobstructed roads and sufficient parking is crucial for effective traffic management.

The NMC is expected to conduct inspections at key locations and take action against establishments and motorists who violate parking and encroachment regulations, indicative of a more stringent approach towards roadside parking and traffic congestion in Nashik.
