LG VK Saxena Inaugurate The World's Highest-Altitude Twin Flower Fields At Leh On PM Modi's 76th Birthday

Leh: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inaugurated the world's highest-altitude twin flower fields at Choglamsar and Stakna in Leh on Thursday, September 17, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 76th birthday. The 40-acre fields, situated at approximately 10,600 feet altitude, boast over 25 lakh flowers, including 24 lakh Lilium and 1 lakh Gladiolus. These high-value blooms are the tallest and largest of their kind in the country, making them a significant achievement in horticulture for Ladakh.

The initiative aims to enhance the region's landscape, promote horticulture and sustainable development in the challenging high-altitude environment. With low temperatures, scarce water resources, and extreme altitude posing significant challenges, the flower fields represent a testament to Ladakh's resilience. They also hold the potential to boost local tourism by offering new attractions to visitors exploring Leh.

LG Saxena emphasized the dual significance of the project, stating that it serves as a training center for progressive farmers, merging technology with traditional farming methods. This approach ensures that young farmers and the local youth can explore profitable, innovative entrepreneurial opportunities through floriculture. As a result, the flower fields contribute to a stronger local economy, balancing economic growth and environmental responsibility.
