NaCCA denies partnering UCC Confucius Institute to train teachers for Chinese language curriculum

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has clarified that it did not partner with the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to train teachers for a Chinese Language Curriculum. In a statement issued on September 16, 2026, NaCCA denounced inaccurate reports suggesting an official collaboration.

The Council emphasized that it neither organized, commissioned, sponsored, nor authorized the program at the Confucius Institute as an institutional teacher-training initiative. It also stated that no delegation from NaCCA participated in the program, with officers attending merely as participants or resource persons, not acting under institutional authorization.

NaCCA cautioned against interpreting their involvement as evidence of an official program, partnership, endorsement, or policy decision. The Council clarified that the program did not introduce or roll out a new national policy on Chinese language instruction in Ghanaian schools, stating that curriculum policy and implementation follow established processes and are communicated through official channels.

NaCCA urged the media and public to differentiate between individual professional participation and institutional authorization, as well as technical or academic engagement and approved national curriculum policy. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate information about Ghana’s national curriculum and assessment framework, emphasizing that individual participation does not equate to institutional authorization, partnership, or policy approval.
