NaCCA denies partnering Confucius Institute, UCC to train teachers in Chinese

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has vehemently denied claims that it collaborated with the Confucius Institute at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to train teachers for a Chinese Language Curriculum. A statement released on September 16, 2026, clarified that these reports were inaccurate and did not align with NaCCA's official actions or institutional stance.

NaCCA emphasized that it neither organized, commissioned, sponsored, nor authorized the program at the Confucius Institute as a formal teacher-training initiative. Furthermore, the Council confirmed that it did not authorize any delegation to participate in the program. The officers who attended the program represented themselves or contributed as resource persons, not as official representatives of NaCCA.

To prevent the spread of misinformation, NaCCA urged against interpreting the officers' participation as proof of institutional endorsement or a nationwide policy. The Council explicitly stated that this program did not mark the inception or implementation of a new national policy on Chinese language instruction in Ghanaian schools. National curriculum policies and their execution are guided by established statutory, policy, and stakeholder consultations, communicated through official channels.

NaCCA implored the media and the public to differentiate between personal professional involvement and institutional authorization. Additionally, it urged media outlets that labeled the program as an official NaCCA-Confucius Institute teacher-training initiative to adjust their reporting to accurately describe the officers' participation.

NaCCA reiterated its dedication to providing precise information about Ghana’s national curriculum and assessment framework, affirming that individual participation does not equate to institutional endorsement, partnership, or policy approval.
