Modular kitchen dealer ‘fails’ to fix defects: Kerala man wins Rs 1.98 lakh payout

A Kerala man successfully claimed a Rs 1.98 lakh payout from a modular kitchen dealer after the company failed to fix defects in the kitchen despite offering a 10-year warranty. The consumer commission ruled in favor of the customer, who paid Rs 1.85 lakh for the kitchen and granite work in 2021. After two years, issues arose with the shutters, shelves, plate basket, and cabinet.

The man attempted to resolve the problems with the dealer via phone calls and in-person visits but received no response or solutions. The commission found that the dealer breached the warranty conditions, resulting in financial loss and mental stress for the complainant. Consequently, the dealer was ordered to refund the paid amount along with 9% interest, Rs 10,000 in compensation, and Rs 3,000 in litigation costs within 30 days. The total amount, excluding interest, amounted to Rs 1.98 lakh.
