The T-shirts, displaying the slogan "We are all Caballas" and "Our City, our homeland," were distributed to all 22 starting players by the clubs before the match. Mbappe emphasized that he stands in solidarity with Ceuta and all the victims, stating that he supports them 100% in his thoughts. He acknowledged that his actions could be misinterpreted, but he wanted to spare a thought for all people facing hardship, not just those from Ceuta.

The players were among the first to remove the partially worn shirts after the match, and until Mbappe's explanation, the reasons behind their actions remained unclear.
