Hawks news: Atlanta adds 3 vets who can make life easier for Quin Snyder

The Atlanta Hawks are prepping for another promising campaign in the upcoming NBA season, with coach Quin Snyder beginning his fifth season in the role. The team will retain its core, which includes players like Jalen Johnson, CJ McCollum, Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Onyeka Okongwu. In addition to the core, the Hawks have bolstered their roster by signing Lu Dort and Aaron Wiggins during the offseason.

Moreover, the team has upgraded its coaching staff, announcing the addition of three veterans who can provide crucial support to Snyder. Jason Love, Ettore Messina, and Sergi Oliva have joined the Hawks' coaching team. Love, who will serve as an assistant coach, previously spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks and five years as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Messina, who will function as a consultant, is returning to Snyder after serving as his deputy at CSKA Moscow in Europe. Messina also had a stint as a consultant for the Los Angeles Lakers and an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs. Oliva, who will act as a basketball strategy and development advisor, is also returning to Snyder, having been his deputy at the Utah Jazz from 2020 to 2022.

Oliva also spent four years as the assistant general manager of the Portland Trail Blazers and six years as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. Snyder expressed optimism about the team's prospects, stating that they have solidified their identity and built a strong foundation, which is vital for success in the league.

The Hawks did not make it to the NBA Finals in the previous season, losing to the New York Knicks in the first round. However, Snyder remains confident about the team's potential.
