Main Korean delegation arrives in Nagoya

NAGOYA, Japan - A substantial contingent of the Korean delegation for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games touched down in the central Japanese city on Thursday, with aspirations to contend with the host nation in the forthcoming medal race commencing this weekend. According to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC), 122 athletes and officials from six sports touched down at Chubu Centrair International Airport in Tokoname, located roughly 30 kilometers south of Nagoya.

They are slated to join teams in sports like football, volleyball, and basketball, whose competitions have already kicked off in and around Nagoya. The opening ceremony is slated for Saturday, and the event will conclude on October 4. The KSOC is aiming for approximately 45 gold medals, given that Korea will participate in 41 of the 43 sports on offer.

China is anticipated to continue its dominance in the medal race, leaving Korea and Japan to vie for the runner-up position. At the last Asiad, held three years ago, Japan secured the second spot with 52 gold medals, 10 more than Korea, who came in third. Leading the delegation's procession through the Japanese airport upon arrival were table tennis player Shin Yu-bin and badminton player Seo Seung-jae.
