Main Korean delegation arrives in Nagoya

NAGOYA, Japan — On Thursday, the primary contingent of the Korean delegation to the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games reached the main host city in central Japan, aiming to contest with the host nation in the medal count commencing this weekend. According to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC), 122 athletes and officials from six sporting disciplines arrived at Chubu Centrair International Airport in Tokoname, situated approximately 30 kilometers south of Nagoya.

These competitors are set to join athletes from sports including football, volleyball, and basketball, whose competitions have already commenced in and around the host city. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, with the tournament concluding on October 4th. The KSOC is aiming to secure around 45 gold medals, with Korea planning to compete in 41 out of the 43 sports on offer.

China is forecasted to maintain its dominance in the medal race, leaving Korea and Japan to battle for second place. At the previous Asian Games three years ago, Japan claimed second place with 52 gold medals, 10 more than Korea. Among those leading the delegation's arrival at the Japanese airport were table tennis player Shin Yu-bin and badminton player Seo Seung-jae.
