KLIA ranks first in Asia for connectivity in OAG Megahubs 2026 ranking

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) has secured the top spot in Asia and the fourth position globally in OAG's Megahubs 2026 ranking, offering connections to an impressive 154 destinations. The airport also leads the Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) Megahubs index, providing nearly 15,000 possible low-cost connections. This ranking highlights Asia Pacific's (APAC) dominance in airport connectivity, with eight airports securing a place in the global top 20.

AirAsia accounts for 34% of the total flights at KUL, while Seoul Incheon Airport ranks second in LCC rankings, with connectivity to 198 destinations. The recovery of Chinese airports played a significant role in the APAC rankings, with Shanghai Pudong Airport moving up from 19th to 14th globally, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport rising from 36th to 19th, and Hong Kong returning to the global top 20 at 20th place.

Tokyo Haneda Airport also improved its ranking from ninth to eighth globally. OAG's Head of APAC, Mayur Patel, noted that the Asia Pacific rankings reveal two stories: the post-pandemic recovery of Chinese aviation, with these airports returning to the top 20, and the impact of low-cost carriers reshaping Southeast Asian connectivity, with 51% of all seats now operated by LCCs, which is higher than the global average.

Singapore Changi Airport has also shown significant growth in the LCC rankings, climbing from 10th to fifth place, while Fukuoka Airport rose from 13th to eighth in the LCC index. On average, the dominant carrier share at APAC's top 10 airports stands at 33%, lower than in other regions, reflecting the diverse mix of full-service and low-cost carriers serving various traveler segments across Southeast and Northeast Asia.
