'India's Chips Will Go Out To The World': PM Modi At SEMICON India 2026

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi showcased India's expanding economic growth and global confidence during his address at SEMICON India 2026. The Prime Minister highlighted the rapid growth of India's semiconductor ecosystem, which is generating new opportunities for innovation, investment, and growth. Inaugurating the event, Modi mentioned India's economic growth of 7.8% in the latest quarter, despite a challenging global scenario.

He also emphasized the importance of semiconductor technology, stating that India's chips will go out to the world.

Modi further elaborated on the initiatives taking place in the country, such as the Global FinTech Fest in Mumbai, which focused on inclusive finance through agentic AI, tokenization, and quantum technology. The Prime Minister also discussed the operationalization of nearly 3,000 km of dedicated freight corridors, aimed at accelerating movement across the country and boosting logistics.

In addition to semiconductor advancements, PM Modi cited a sovereign rating upgrade for India by a credit rating agency, which he said demonstrated growing global confidence in the Indian economy. He also referred to the BRICS Summit, where the New Delhi Declaration was adopted by consensus, further indicating international confidence in India.

Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined the six pillars of India's semiconductor ecosystem: chip design, machines and materials, fabs, advanced packaging, research and development, and talent. More than 105 startups participated in the first phase of the semiconductor program, with around 20 securing venture capital funding of approximately Rs 800 crore. The government aims to support at least 200 chip-design startups and companies under Semicon 2.0.

Vaishnaw also mentioned that India has trained 70,000 design engineers in four years, well ahead of its initial 10-year target of 85,000. Over 400 universities across the nation now have access to electronic design automation tools.
