More than 105 startups participated in the first phase of the semiconductor program, with around 20 securing venture capital funding of approximately Rs 800 crore. The government aims to support at least 200 chip-design startups and companies under Semicon 2.0.

Vaishnaw also mentioned that India has trained 70,000 design engineers in four years, well ahead of its initial 10-year target of 85,000. Over 400 universities across the nation now have access to electronic design automation tools.
