Hanwha, EDGE to build UAE's integrated air defense network

Hanwha Systems has entered into a partnership with the United Arab Emirates' state-run defense conglomerate EDGE to develop an integrated air defense network. This network will encompass both long-range and medium-range capabilities, along with counter-drone defenses. On Thursday, the CEOs of both companies signed a term sheet during a ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

The term sheet details the direction of the planned introduction of weapons systems for the network and the review agendas at each stage of the project. The two companies intend to align the project's details with the trajectory of defense cooperation between their respective nations. Following government approvals and consultations, they will establish a local joint venture and discuss its operations, including local production.

Through this collaboration, Hanwha Systems aims to broaden its scope beyond supplying individual weapons systems. The company plans to engage in the integrated air defense network by integrating ground weapons systems, such as the Chunmoo multiple rocket launchers.
