Guinea bans French TV outlet over 'putschist president' label

Guinea's media regulator has banned French TV outlet France 24 from broadcasting in the country following a presenter's description of President Mamady Doumbouya as a "putschist president." Guinea, ruled by a former coup leader, has limited dissent and revoked France 24's broadcasting authorization and press accreditations for its correspondents.

Reporters Without Borders criticized these decisions, urging authorities to reverse them and uphold media pluralism. Doumbouya seized power in a 2021 coup and won a contested election in December 2025. The nation has seen the dissolution of political parties, bans on protests, and arrests of dissenters since his rule began. France 24 has previously faced broadcasting bans in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Togo.
