German police call Vitaly Kovalev a founder of Trickbot, the hacking group whose ransomware hit U.S. hospitals. New People had him on its Duma candidate list before dropping him in July.

The German police have charged Vitaly Kovalev, a 38-year-old with Interpol warrants, as a founder of the Trickbot hacking group. This group, responsible for a ransomware attack on U.S. hospitals, allegedly gained unauthorized access to over $1 million worth of American bank accounts. Kovalev was initially included in New People's federal candidate list for the State Duma elections but was removed before the Central Election Commission certified the lists.

Interpol lists Kovalev as an organizer of a criminal enterprise, and he has faced charges in the U.S. since 2012 for conspiracy to commit bank fraud and unauthorized access to bank accounts. He is also an adviser to Vladislav Davankov, a State Duma deputy speaker, who visited a longevity laboratory with Kovalev in August 2025.
