London - Despite rising inflation prompting other central banks to increase their benchmark interest rates, the British Monetary Authority, the Bank of England, decided to keep its key rate unchanged at 3.75 percent on Thursday. However, Bank of England officials signaled that their patience is running thin, with Governor Andrew Bailey stating that "the longer the Iran war drives inflation upwards, the more likely it is that we will need to raise interest rates."

Bailey emphasized that the central bank's mandate is to ensure that any inflation increase is temporary and returns to its two percent target. The decision to maintain the status quo was made by a 6-3 vote by the monetary policy committee, with some members voting for an immediate increase in the rate by 25 basis points to four percent.

Previous actions by the European Central Bank and the Federal Reserve in the United States had also involved raising interest rates due to concerns over rising inflation.
