Filmmaker Park Hoon-jung wins top prize at French festival with 'Tristes Tropiques'

Park Hoon-jung's latest action noir film, Tristes Tropiques, emerged victorious at the 32nd L'Etrange Festival in France, securing the prestigious Nouveau Genre Grand Prize. This accolade, awarded in the international competition section, bolsters the director's reputation on the global film stage following a successful run at various European festivals.

Tristes Tropiques had already claimed the Silver Raven at the 44th Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and was invited to both the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and Germany's 40th Fantasy Filmfest. The movie follows a group of young assassins, trained in a tropical rainforest by a ruthless mentor, as they grapple with betrayal and embark on a path of vengeance.
