Egypt, Senegal plan direct shipping route between Alexandria, Dakar

Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir engaged in discussions with Senegalese Minister Amy Mara Dièye to establish a commercial shipping route connecting Alexandria and Dakar. This proposed maritime link aims to bolster trade relations between Egypt and West African nations. Al-Wazir elaborated that the route would provide a more direct shipping connection, enabling Egyptian goods to reach West African markets with greater ease, while also improving access for Senegalese products to Middle Eastern and Arab markets.

He further emphasized that the Alexandria-Dakar route could pave the way for broader maritime cooperation and improved trade and investment ties between the two countries. Additionally, the ministers delved into talks about collaboration in shipbuilding, production of fishing vessels, and maritime training. Discussions also touched upon the potential utilization of Egyptian shipyards for constructing fishing boats and vessels intended for Senegal, as well as training programs for Senegalese personnel through Egyptian institutions.

Senegalese Minister Dièye expressed her country's eagerness to deepen its partnership with Egypt, leveraging Egypt's expertise in maritime transport and infrastructure. Following the meeting, both parties agreed to set up a joint committee tasked with finalizing a comprehensive maritime transport cooperation agreement between Egypt and Senegal, which is expected to be signed in the near future.
