DTI inaugurates Academic Council, Industry Advisory Committees to strengthen TVET delivery

The Design and Technology Institute (DTI) has officially launched its Academic Council and Industry Advisory Committees to enhance academic quality and ensure its programs stay aligned with industry demands. This significant move took place at the DTI’s Awalete Campus in Mempeasem, East Legon, signaling the commencement of the 2026/2027 academic year.

The newly established Academic Council serves as the Institute's top internal academic authority. Responsible for maintaining the quality, integrity, and relevance of DTI’s educational programs, the council will also ensure compliance with the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), the National TVET Qualifications Framework (NTVETQF), and international certification bodies such as AWS SENSE, Pearson, and NOCTI.

In addition to the Academic Council, four Industry Advisory Committees have been set up, each composed of about 40 industry professionals. These committees, focusing on Multimedia/Design Innovation, Welding and Fabrication, CAD-CAM, and Entrepreneurship, will actively collaborate with Heads of Department, Lead Facilitators, and student representatives.

Their primary roles include validating curricula, providing technical insights for projects, participating in industry juries, and facilitating industry immersion opportunities for faculty and students.

Constance Swaniker, the Founder and President of DTI, emphasized that these initiatives are aimed at fostering a strong partnership with industry. "Education at DTI is designed with industry, not simply for it," she stated. "Today, we place independent academic oversight and real industry expertise at the core of our teaching, ensuring that every DTI graduate meets the standard of Precision Quality."

By establishing this structured engagement with industry and independent academic oversight, DTI aims to deliver TVET programs that are not only rigorous but also highly relevant and responsive to Ghana's evolving industrial and creative economy. The Academic Council and Industry Advisory Committees are set to kick off their responsibilities as part of DTI’s activities for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year.
