BUDI Diesel mobile counters proposed for Sabah, Sarawak, says minister

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 17 — The BUDI Madani Diesel (BUDI Diesel) mobile counter program has been proposed for expansion to Sabah and Sarawak, ensuring rural and remote communities are not left out due to limited digital access. Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak), emphasized that a direct approach was necessary for these states.

He proposed collaboration with UPPM in Sabah, KMKK and JJKK in Sarawak, as well as District Offices, KPDN, and other agencies. Mustapha stressed the importance of not relying solely on online portals, citing the geographical realities of both states. He urged the Ministry of Finance, KPDN, and other agencies to strengthen cooperation with grassroots community leadership structures.

The new ruling allows registered owners to transfer eligibility to any actual user of a private diesel vehicle, and owners of multiple vehicles can transfer to up to three individuals. Mustapha viewed these improvements as a testament to the prime minister listening to the people of Sabah and Sarawak, but stressed that true policy success depends on grassroots benefit.

Feedback on the implementation will continue to be raised at Cabinet meetings to ensure the federal government's priority.
