Brainlab: „Revolutionärer Schritt“ – neues Verfahren zur Lungentumorbestrahlung entwickelt

Munich – The specialist in medical technology, Brainlab, aims to enhance radiotherapy for lung cancer with a novel method. CEO Rainer Birkenbach informed the Handelsblatt that "five out of every 100 individuals will develop a lung tumor, and four of them will not survive the first five years." Lung cancer is often diagnosed late and challenging to treat due to the lung's movement during radiation therapy.

Consequently, the tumour's moving area is often irradiated, subjecting healthy tissue to harm. To significantly reduce this effect, Brainlab introduces its "Advanced Motion Management" after EU certification, set to enter the market on Thursday. Birkenbach described this development as "a revolutionary step." Brainlab is one of the pioneers in software-assisted surgery and tumour therapy; however, a planned stock market listing last year collapsed.

Though the initial share issuance was overvalued due to a challenging capital market environment, industry circles feared inadequate demand and a price drop following the initial listing. Founders Stefan Vilsmeier had hoped for a valuation reaching up to two billion euros.
