BOST clarifies fuel export cut to Burkina Faso, Mali – Says no imminent shortage in Ghana

BOST Energies Limited has set the record straight regarding reports of reduced fuel exports to Burkina Faso and Mali, emphasizing that the situation is not indicative of an impending fuel scarcity in Ghana. The clarification surfaced after Managing Director Afetsi Awoonor engaged with Reuters during an energy conference in Bangkok.

Awoonor's statement, quoted by Reuters, revealed that BOSTenergies is "managing our export business to ensure that we have enough for the country first." However, BOSTenergies has refuted this perception, asserting that "There is no imminent fuel shortage in Ghana, and no cutting of supply has been implemented on this and any other basis."

The reduction in fuel exports to the two Sahelian nations is primarily attributed to ongoing renovations at BOSTenergies' Bolgatanga depot, which serves as the northernmost facility and primary gateway for fuel shipments to the Sahelian region. This decision was not swayed by political, security, or diplomatic factors. Under normal circumstances, BOSTenergies facilitates regional fuel exports through a network of pipelines and barges connecting its depots from southern Ghana to the north, enabling competitive pricing while preserving profit margins.

Despite the Bolgatanga depot undergoing renovations and nearing completion, BOSTenergies has maintained regional supply by transporting fuel from its Tema depot using Bulk Road Vehicles. This alternative method ensures equitable fuel access across demand zones in Ghana. The company affirmed its dedication to regional fuel security through robust and commercially viable supply arrangements, expressing commitment to collaborating with government and regulatory entities to expedite the Bolgatanga depot's completion.

Furthermore, BOSTenergies pledged to maintain transparent communication with the media and public regarding developments impacting Ghana's downstream petroleum sector.
