BOST clarifies fuel export cut to Burkina Faso, Mali – Says no imminent shortage in Ghana

BOST Energies Limited has clarified that its reported reduction in fuel supply volumes to Burkina Faso and Mali had nothing to do with an impending fuel shortage in Ghana. This clarification came following an interview with the company's Managing Director, Afetsi Awoonor, at an energy conference in Bangkok. At the time, Awoonor stated that BOSTenergies was "managing our export business to ensure that we have enough for the country first."

However, BOSTenergies swiftly published a statement denying the suggestion that Ghana was facing a fuel shortage, emphasizing that "there is no imminent fuel shortage in Ghana, and no cutting of supply has been implemented on this and any other basis."

The reduction in exports to the two Sahelian countries is primarily due to ongoing revamp works at BOSTenergies' Bolgatanga depot, which serves as their northernmost facility and the main gateway for fuel supplies to the Sahelian region. This depot is undergoing renovations and is nearing completion, but the company has been continuing to supply the regional market through alternative means.

They are utilizing their coastal depot in Tema, moving fuel via Bulk Road Vehicles, to maintain equitable access to fuel across demand zones in Ghana.

BOSTenergies has rejected any implication that the decision to reduce exports was influenced by political, security, or diplomatic considerations. Under normal operations, fuel for regional exports is transported through an integrated network of pipelines and barges linking depots from southern Ghana to the north, allowing them to supply Burkina Faso and Mali at competitive prices while maintaining required profit margins.

Once the Bolgatanga depot revamp is completed, full regional supply capacity will be restored, reaffirming the company's commitment to regional fuel security through reliable and commercially sound supply arrangements. They are actively working with government and regulatory partners to expedite the completion of the Bolgatanga facility and will continue to engage the media and public transparently on developments within Ghana's downstream petroleum sector.
