BIFF names Chinese auteur Zhang Yimou as Competition jury chief

Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has announced Zhang Yimou, a renowned Chinese filmmaker, as the jury president for the main Competition section. The seven-member jury also comprises Chinese filmmaker Bi Gan, Japanese director Kei Ishikawa, Vietnamese producer Tran Thi Bich Ngoc, South Korean director July Jung, South Korean actor Choi Hee-seo, and Kazakhstani actor Samal Yeslyamova.

The jury will select the winners for the Busan Award from a shortlist of 13 films. Zhang has garnered top prizes at prestigious film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival's Golden Bear, the Venice International Film Festival's Golden Lion, and the Cannes Film Festival's Grand Jury Prize. The 31st edition of BIFF, Asia's largest film festival, will take place in Busan, a southeastern port city, from October 6 to 15.
