Before court today, Sir Sobha Singh Trust plea against RSS affiliate over rent dues of ’15 years’

The Sir Sobha Singh Public Charitable Trust is set to present its plea in court regarding unpaid rent from an RSS-affiliated trade group, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS). The case, which has been ongoing since 2021, involves four properties at the Sir Sobha Singh Building near the New Delhi Railway Station. The Building, once the headquarters of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, was handed over to the BMS as its Delhi headquarters.

The Trust alleges that the BMS has been in continuous default of rent for 15 years, occupying the premises without authorization. Deshraj Gupta and Jagdish Prasad Mathur, both deceased, were the primary respondents, along with their brothers and the BMS itself. The BMS has offered to pay the arrears, while the Trust's attorney maintains that the tenancy has been unauthorized and that the premises have been damaged.

The Trust was established in 1961 by Sir Sobha Singh, who was a prominent contractor for Lutyens New Delhi and behind several historic buildings in Delhi.
