Attacks on Saudi Arabia affect UAE security directly, Gargash warns

Dr Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to President Sheikh Mohamed, warned that attacks on Saudi Arabia directly impact the UAE's security and prosperity. This was mentioned during the Arab Media Summit in Dubai, following a reported Houthi attack on Makkah involving a drone that was intercepted and destroyed. Gargash emphasized the need to rebuild trust with Iran after a series of attacks on Gulf states since the war began on February 28.

He highlighted the threat posed by Iran-backed militia groups operating without official government approval, stating that such actions would destabilize Iran. Gargash stressed that the region's prosperity is tied to the resolution of the Iran conflict and the repair of diplomatic relations. He urged the UAE to not only defend itself but also to prepare for constructive dialogue with Iran to facilitate a new era of relations.

Gargash acknowledged that rebuilding trust with Iran will take years and expressed the hope that the current crisis will end with minimal damage. He criticized Iran's decision to attack neighboring Gulf states, calling it a strategic blunder, and urged Iran to reconsider its approach. He also noted that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had criticized the attacks against the GCC during a recent summit in New Delhi, suggesting that such voices could help the region move forward.
