Four decades after Ram Teri Ganga Maili catapulted Mandakini to stardom, the veteran actress is revisiting the film's iconic waterfall scene and challenging the common perception of it as vulgar. At just 16 years old, Mandakini played the role of Ganga opposite Raj Kapoor in his farewell directorial venture. Though the scene made her a household name, it also drew scrutiny from audiences that she claims never matched the intended innocence of the production.

Reflecting on her teenage experience, Mandakini admitted she didn't fully comprehend how her performances would be interpreted years down the line. Describing Raj Kapoor's approach on set, she recalled him as a warm, almost familial figure who guided her through the process. Kapoor's instructions for the waterfall sequence felt more like guidance from a close friend rather than an exposure-inducing command, which is why Mandakini never perceived the scene as vulgar or uncomfortable during filming.
