At 16, Mandakini filmed Ram Teri Ganga Maili’s waterfall scene: 'No vulgarity, I doubled the saree'

Yasmeen Joseph, better known as Mandakini, has spoken out about the controversial breastfeeding scene from her 1985 film Ram Teri Ganga Maili. The actress set the record straight, revealing the sequence was not a genuine breastfeeding act and insisted no body double was employed during filming. In an interview with ANI, Mandakini was questioned about the authenticity of the scene.

Responding, she said, "Nahi wo tha hi nahi, wo itna ache tareeke se unhone picturise kiya tha," which translates to "It wasn't, and it was done so well by them." When asked if a body double was utilized, Mandakini firmly denied, stating, "Body double bhi nahi tha, main hi thi lekin wo breastfeeding nahi tha," which means, "There was no body double; I was the only one, but it was not breastfeeding."

Mandakini went on to explain how the scene was created, comparing it to contemporary fashion trends. She said, "It s like aaj kal aap dekhte hain kitna low neck pehnti hai ladkiya, kitna kitna low, literally aisa lagta hai you can see everything now. Usi tarah se....." This translates to, "It's like what you see today when women wear low neck outfits, how revealing they can be.

Similarly..." Mandakini further clarified that she was cognizant of how the scene would appear on screen, likening it to a woman wearing a low-neck dress and holding a child close, where one might be unsure if the child is being breastfed.
