ASUU declares indefinite strike in UNIPORT

The University of Port Harcourt's chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced an indefinite strike, citing the alleged non-implementation of the Federal Government-ASUU agreement signed in December 2025. Professor Omeh Obasi Ngwoke, the branch chairperson, informed that the industrial action is also due to alleged misconduct within the institution.

The union had been engaging with the university management, patiently awaiting the full payment of outstanding salaries as per federal directives. However, the ongoing non-payment of salaries has forced the union to resort to an indefinite local strike. Ngwoke emphasized that the salaries owed to the staff are far more significant than what they are currently receiving, and the union needs to assert its resolve for the Congress's revolution, leading to the activation of the indefinite strike at UNIPORT.

The ASUU chairman also expressed concern over the poverty-stricken conditions of the members and the unfortunate loss of lives due to the lack of salary payments. The union has vowed to continue the strike until the University of Port Harcourt complies with its demands and adheres to the federal government's orders and directives.
