Arrest all officials who handled cocaine-linked container – Nitiwul

Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has urged for the arrest of all individuals implicated in the handling of a container associated with recent drug trafficking through Ghana's ports. This comes after the apprehension of ten people, including four officers from the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), who are currently under arrest while the investigation proceeds.

Nitiwul expressed that the investigation should not just be limited to the individuals already apprehended, suggesting that every person who had any involvement in the handling of the container must be questioned. He made these remarks during an appearance on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, September 16.

While acknowledging the government's response to the incident as commendable, Nitiwul felt it was insufficient. He emphasized that a more comprehensive approach was necessary, stating that all parties involved in the chain of events related to the container should be brought to justice. Nitiwul also advocated for the immediate removal of heads of agencies responsible for overseeing the officials implicated in the incident, arguing that their presence could potentially bias the ongoing investigations.

He maintained that the supervision of these individuals should be suspended to ensure an impartial and thorough examination of the situation.

Nitiwul further urged authorities to expand the probe beyond the recent cocaine seizure, highlighting the need for a broader investigation into other significant drug seizures reported over the past year.
