Army steps up drone surveillance on border routes amid unrest in southern Thailand

MELAKA, Sept 17 - The Malaysian Army is enhancing border security by deploying advanced drone technology along the Malaysia-Thailand border, especially following recent unrest in southern Thailand. General Tan Sri Azhan Md Othman, the Chief of Army, explained that the drones assist in monitoring challenging terrain, where physical patrols by ground troops are impractical.

He explained that while the border extends over a vast distance, certain regions are inaccessible due to hilly and forested landscapes. Consequently, the unmanned aerial vehicles are utilized to collect data and offer live updates before ground forces engage in further action. During a recent visit to Russia, the Army Chief discussed potential collaborations with their Ground Forces, focusing on training and exchange programs.

These areas include combined arms and artillery. Both countries are currently finalizing the arrangements for TDM personnel to undergo this specialized training.
