In Berlin, a new Member of Parliament (MP) house will be elected on September 20th. The election campaign focuses on key issues such as housing and renting, functioning city administration, mobility, as well as education, culture and sports policies. To help voters determine which party best represents their position, the Wahl-O-Mat is available.

This online tool allows users to compare their own stance on various topics with the positions of the parties running in the election. The Wahl-O-Mat was developed by an independent team of young voters from Berlin, experts from academia, journalism and education, and employees of the Federal Agency for Political Education (Bpb).

The team presents 80 theses to the allowed parties for the MP election. Out of these, 38 theses are selected for the Wahl-O-Mat, covering important election issues and those that sparked controversy among the parties. The Wahl-O-Mat is offered by the Federal Agency for Political Education (Bpb), a federal authority under the Ministry of the Interior, which aims to promote democratic awareness in the population and encourage people to become informed, critical, and active participants in German politics. The Bpb's legal basis is an order of the Federal Interior Minister of January 24, 2001.

Established in 1952, the Bpb operates under a board composed of 22 members from the German Bundestag, ensuring a balanced approach in its work. The Bpb has been providing the online Wahl-O-Mat since 2002, updating it with the latest information before Land and Bundestag elections, as well as European Parliament elections. The MP election in Berlin takes place on Sunday, September 20th, with polling stations open from 8 to 18 hours.

For those who cannot vote in person, there is an option for postal voting. The Wahl-O-Mat becomes available on August 24th, providing users with up-to-date information before Land and Bundestag elections, as well as European Parliament elections. Alternatives to the Wahl-O-Mat for the MP election include the Social-O-Mat by Diakonie Berlin-Brandenburg-Schlesische Oberlausitz, which focuses on social policy topics such as housing, health and care, poverty and society, migration and integration, and children and youth.

This tool asks voters about their party preferences on these issues and compares them. The Party-Check, developed for the 2024 European Parliament election and further developed for the 2025 Bundestag election, is another alternative. It is a scientific party test based on neutral analysis by independent political experts, complementing the Wahl-O-Mat.
