Anwar, KJ, Onn Hafiz antara calon PM paling menonjol, menurut kajian

Anwar Ibrahim, Khairy Jamaluddin, and Onn Hafiz Ghazi emerged as some of the most prominent candidates for the Malaysian Prime Minister position, according to the Vodus Research Malaysia Prime Minister Candidate Study 2026. The study, which surveyed 1,482 Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above from August 18 to September 1, found that Anwar holds the highest approval rating at 46%, with 34% of respondents choosing him as their top choice.

Vodus Research noted that Anwar is the most recognized figure, with 93% of respondents knowing about him. Support for Anwar is stronger in East Malaysia, with 41% of respondents choosing him as their top choice compared to 28% in the peninsula. Each candidate gained support for different reasons, with Khairy Jamaluddin emerging as the primary alternative to Anwar due to his strong leadership, clear vision for the nation, and trustworthiness.

Their approval rate is 32%, though their support as a top choice is lower. Onn Hafiz Ghazi, a former Johor Chief Minister, also gained attention, with his support driven by his leadership capabilities, trust, and ability to drive the economy. Vodus Research stated that Onn's national profile has room for improvement, with only 17% support, and a national recognition rate of 42%.

Former Finance Minister Rafizi Ramli, known for his reformative views on institutions, maintains a high rating for integrity, good governance, and economic growth potential. However, his 20% rejection rate affects his overall approval. Vodus Research's founder, Kelvin Goh, noted that public opinion on potential national leaders is more complex than just popularity contests, as someone who excels in one aspect may not lead in other areas.

He suggested that Anwar's higher support in East Malaysia might be partly due to his focus on Sabah and Sarawak, including developments related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Sabah and Sarawak's revenue control, and fiscal justice.
