Anwar, Abang Johari witness Bintulu Port handover to Sarawak

Sarawak's state government is committed to ensuring the state's ongoing progress and prosperity as part of a vibrant and stable Malaysia, according to Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. The government's plans involve bolstering economic, energy, industrial, and technological sectors, as well as promoting regional development, in order to maintain Sarawak's important role in national economic growth.

In his address at the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebration at the Borneo Convention Centre in Kuching, he expressed the government's desire to see the achievements of the state benefit not only the people of Sarawak, but also contribute to the overall development and prosperity of Malaysia. Furthermore, the Sarawak Government has welcomed the Federal Government's commitment to empower the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including ensuring that Sarawak and Sabah receive a minimum of one-third parliamentary representation, determining the revenue-sharing formula with Sarawak, and strengthening cooperation in the tourism sector.

These measures are anticipated to foster stronger collaboration and cooperation between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government, and the Premier expressed his hope that such commitments will foster a broader understanding that acknowledging the rights and special privileges of Sabah and Sarawak is an integral part of the national agenda.
