Anthropic’s new Claude Code feature could drain your plan before lunch

Anthropic is unveiling a revamped Claude Code feature called Claude Projects, which begins beta testing for select Claude Pro and Max subscribers on Thursday. The new Projects functionality will allow developers to delegate engineering tasks to multiple Claude Code sessions running simultaneously, automating a process that previously required manual task division.

Anthropic describes Claude Projects as a coordinator that breaks down engineering goals into smaller jobs and assigns them to parallel threads. Each thread runs as its own Claude Code cloud session, with a separate branch and copy of the repository. This parallel approach can consume tokens more rapidly and may reach usage limits faster when multiple threads are active, as each thread counts as a full Claude Code session.

The coordinator can handle merge conflicts that may arise when threads modify the same code, similar to handling pull requests. Shared memory will be added, allowing information learned in one thread to be utilized by others without developers repeatedly providing context. The feature will eventually support local thread execution and mobile access, with Team and Enterprise access planned for later.

Existing subscribers with Projects will remain on the current version until Anthropic upgrades their accounts.
