Andre the Giant to lead Sharks, Tshituka, Van Heerden, Hatton his URC co-captains

The Sharks rugby club has revamped its leadership structure for the upcoming United Rugby Championship (URC) season, with no single player shouldering the burden of captaincy. Captain Andre Esterhuizen will continue to lead the team on the field, supported by three co-captains: Emile van Heerden, Nick Hatton and Vincent Tshituka.

Should Esterhuizen be unavailable, one of the co-captains will step into the role. Veteran Springbok prop Vincent Koch and Phepsi Buthelezi have also been appointed Club Captains, responsible for maintaining standards off the field, including in training, the gym and changeroom. Coach JP Pietersen believes this new structure will distribute leadership more evenly among players, fostering a collective sense of responsibility.

Pietersen emphasized that every player and coach in the squad will be held accountable to one another, with no one above the established standards.
