Air Peace faults NCAA data on August flight delays

Air Peace has challenged the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority's (NCAA) report on flight disruptions in August, claiming the regulator underreported its flight operations and inaccurately attributed delays to the airline. The airline stated it conducted 2,564 flights in August, which contradicts the 1,864 flights reported by the NCAA.

Only 391 of Air Peace's delays were caused by internal operational factors, according to the airline. The NCAA reported 1,864 disruptions for Air Peace, while domestic airlines collectively experienced 7,961 disruptions in August. Air Peace argued that the omission of over 700 flights in the NCAA report distorted its performance metrics and inflated the reported delay percentages.

The airline questioned the timing and scope of the NCAA's monthly reporting, pointing out that the monthly series began with August instead of July and that no equivalent monthly data was available for July, despite being published 13 days after month-end. Air Peace also noted that the industrial action disrupting its operations during the month was not accounted for in the report.

The airline claimed that only 391 flights were delayed by internal factors, while the rest were attributed to external factors such as technical issues, fuel-related problems, airport congestion, bird strikes, and weather-related disruptions.
