4 Women Labourers Killed, 5 Injured As Wall Collapses During Building Demolition In MP’s Sanwer

Four women labourers lost their lives and five others sustained injuries when a wall collapsed during the demolition of an old, unsafe house in Sanwer, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred near Tashan Square around 4 pm. DSP Umakant Choudhary reported that workers were tearing down the dilapidated building when a wall from an adjoining house suddenly fell, trapping the laborers under the debris.

The deceased were identified as Reena, 30, Seema, 33, and Chanda Bai, 30, all residents of Sanwer, along with Sushila Bai, 50, from Kayasthkhedi Kankad village. Each of the four victims was reportedly engaged in labor work. The injured were Manju Solanki, Sundar Sunwaniya, Santoshi Bai, and Sunil and Dilip Singh, residents of Sanwer and Dhar district, respectively.

Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene, and a JCB was utilized to clear the debris. Injured individuals were either transported to local hospitals or shifted to MY Hospital if their conditions were grave. A significant number of individuals, including relatives of the deceased and injured, gathered at the site. The balcony of the building being demolished had reportedly collapsed a month prior, and the Nagar Parishad had been notified.

A warning had reportedly been issued to the property owner to vacate the building. The owner, who operates a transport business in the city, was present at the site with the contractor when the unfortunate event unfolded. Police and civic teams remained at the location until late evening as they worked to clear the debris.
